Network & System Administrator
Job Description
Purpose of the position
The Network & System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and securing our
network infrastructure and systems to ensure smooth operation and optimal performance.
Principle Responsibilities
1. Network Management:
o Design, implement, and maintain the school's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN,
WLAN, and VPN.
o Monitor network performance, troubleshoot network issues, and optimize network
configurations for efficiency and reliability.
o Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion
detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
2. System Administration:
o Administer Windows and Linux servers, ensuring their availability, performance, and security.
o Install, configure, and maintain server software and applications, including VLAN, DNS, DHCP,
and email services.
o Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data and ensure
business continuity.
3. User Support:
o Provide technical support to end-users, addressing hardware, software, and network-related
issues promptly and effectively.
o Assist with the setup and configuration of end-user devices, including desktops, laptops,
printers, and mobile devices.
o Conduct user training sessions and create documentation to facilitate self-service and user
empowerment.
4. Infrastructure Planning and Improvement:
o Collaborate with other IT staff and department heads to assess current infrastructure needs and
plan for future growth and expansion.
o Research and recommend new technologies, tools, and best practices to enhance the school's IT
infrastructure and services.
o Lead or participate in infrastructure upgrade projects, from planning and implementation to
testing and deployment.
Required qualifications/experience: related field
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Network & System Administrator or similar role, preferably in an
educational environment.
• Solid understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
• Proficiency in administering Windows and Linux servers, as well as virtualization technologies
(e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
• Familiarity with network security principles and practices, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and VPNs.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues
systematically.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with users
of varying technical levels.
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), MTCNA - MikroTik Certified Network Associate are a
plus.
